Chiropractors – Some Insight

A chiropractor is a medical practitioner specializing in the treatment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those involving the spine, with an emphasis on prevention and therapeutic treatment through manual manipulation and adjustments of the spinal column. Many chiropractors work with patients on an outpatient basis for pain relief and rehabilitation. More commonly, chiropractor offices are located in or near professional health care facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare centers. Some chiropractors may work in other health care professions such as pediatrics, surgery, dentistry, radiology and other related fields. check it out for more info.

Before a patient presents themselves to a chiropractor for care, they will be examined by the chiropractor to establish a diagnosis of spine and vertebral subluxation. If identified in this manner, the chiropractor will then recommend a course of treatment designed to prevent further injury or discomfort. In most cases, treatment is administered by the chiropractor on an outpatient basis. Treatment may include manual adjustments, ultrasound therapy, exercise therapy and use of pharmaceutical aids such as pain medications or muscle relaxers. Patients are encouraged to return for follow-up visits as well to monitor their effectiveness.

If a chiropractor identifies an overuse condition such as a herniated disc or a subluxation, then other measures will need to be taken to correct the problem. For example, if the spine is out of alignment, then adjustments to the spine may be needed to straighten the spine and relieve the affected area(s) of pain or dysfunction. Treatments administered by the chiropractor may include weight loss, cold laser therapy or ultrasound therapy. In some instances, physical therapy may also be recommended as an adjunct to treatment by a chiropractor.
